Ferdinand de Jong is Senior Lecturer in Anthropology at the University of East Anglia where he teaches African art, archives, memory, and cultural heritage. He is the author of Masquerades of Modernity: Power and Secrecy in Casamance, Senegal (2007) and co-editor, with Michael Rowlands, of Reclaiming Heritage: Alternative Imaginaries of Memory in West Africa (2007). He is currently completing a manuscript on the legacy of Pan-Africanism in Senegal. f.jong@uea.ac.uk

Elizabeth Harney is Associate Professor in the Department of Art, University of Toronto, where she teaches courses in modern and contemporary African and diaspora art. Her volume Mapping Modernities, co-edited with Ruth B. Phillips, is forthcoming from Duke University Press. She has two current book projects. The first, entitled Retromodernism, examines the relations between contemporary artistic practices and the decolonial moment; the second, Prismatic Scatterings, looks at the rhizomatic histories of African, Caribbean, and Latin American artists in postwar Paris. e.harney@utoronto.ca
