In Summer 2023, I was filled with excitement as I put together my syllabi for my courses, African Art and Civilization and History of African Textiles and Fashion. During this time, I was getting ready to move to New York and begin my first semester as an assistant professor with a full-time teaching load (four courses). Initially, I thought the most challenging part of preparing these syllabi was to adapt them from a ten-week term to a fifteen-week one (for my undergraduate and graduate training, I attended UCLA and UCSC, respectively, which operate on the quarter system). However, I found that the most challenging aspect was answering for myself the questions: How do I approach AI (artificial intelligence) in these courses?
