Available on JSTOR at: doi.org/10.2307/3334282 Abstract Flora Nwapa has the distinction of being the first African woman to have a novel published in London. The story of the beautiful and gentle “Efuru” is not only a tender tale of village life, but gains an extra dimension from the feminine intimacy of the daily round in the village which it lovingly records. This is a chapter from her second novel, “Idu”, which will be published by Heinemann Educational Books Ltd. in London next year.
