The 23rd International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME) will be hosted in Mexico City, 31 May–2 June 2023, hosted by Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana's campus in Lerma (UAM-Lerma), Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). This will be the first NIME conference to be held in Mexico and the second to be held in Latin America (after NIME 2019 in Brazil). Taking inspiration from clever innovations by the Mexica people and the Aztec empire in the 14th century, the conference theme of “Frugal Music Innovation” emphasizes affordability, sustainability, and broad accessibility and adoptability in its submissions of novel interfaces for music-making.
