Zentrum für Kunst und Medien (ZKM) in Karlsruhe, Germany, and the German public broadcasting company Südwestrundfunk (SWR) hosted the presentations of the 2022 Giga-Hertz Award for Electronic Music and Sound Art on 26 November 2022. The Lifetime Achievement award went to Daniel Teruggi, acknowledging his contributions not only as a composer but also as director of Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM) in Paris and for advancing the pedagogy and preservation of electroacoustic music and audiovisual art. Teruggi gave a keynote address on his work, followed by a full concert of his compositions.
Two Production awards were presented: to Yu-Jung Chen for “Lightscape of the Silence,” an audiovisual work inspired by Gilles Deleuze that explores the natural and the artificial, and to Peter Gahn for “De-escalating Skies I+III,” for alto saxophone and live electronics, which drew inspiration and sounds from an underground pipeline system.
