This article describes the Sound Entity Creator—a Max abstraction designed for the generation of sound object trajectories for use in electroacoustic spatial composition—and a compositional framework developed for its use. The introductory section addresses issues concerning the use of space in electroacoustic composition and the development of new spatialization technologies. Then the Sound Entity is defined, technical design features of the patches are described, and a compositional framework is presented, which relies on the use of spectral centroid values to generate trajectories typically limited to the surface of a three-dimensional shape. This is followed by examples of the system at work from a composition created by the author. The article concludes with a summary of an expert panel review of the piece that suggests the primary aesthetic goal of the system was achieved.
