Abstract
This article presents MoNoDeC, a multichannel audio system for creating immersive distributed audio experiences using mobile phones and Internet of Things (IoT)-driven speakers. This network-based framework transforms audience-provided devices into point sources in a scalable speaker array, enabling dynamic participation and real-time interaction and sound diffusion. Coordinated by its underlying server system Collab-Hub, MoNoDeC allows users to modify musical elements of a composition or sonic installation, contribute to collective canvases, and modify timbral properties of digital instruments through browser-based performance interfaces. Designed with newcomers to networked music performance practice in mind, MoNoDeC provides artists with an accessible and customizable tool for creating distributed music.
