Design in India: The Importance of the Ahmedabad Declaration

Singanapalli Balaram was a senior professor at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and among the first teachers of Design Education in India in the 1960s. He founded the Craft Development Institute in Kashmir for Government of India. He is the author of “Thinking Design” (NID, Ahmedabad, 1998). In 2005 he became the Dean at D. J. Academy of Design, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India. He was educated in India and the U.K.
