Values as Hypotheses: Design, Inquiry, and the Service of Values

Nassim JafariNaimi is an assistant professor in the Digital Media program, School of Literature, Media, and Communication at Georgia Institute of Technology. Her research explores the ethical and political dimensions of design, especially its capacity to form and reform social and collective interactions.

Lisa Nathan is an assistant professor and coordinator of the First Nations Curriculum Concentration at the University of British Columbia's iSchool in Vancouver, Canada. Nathan directs the Sustaining Information Practice Research and Design Studio. Her team explores generative ways of managing information to address longer-term challenges (e.g., social justice, decolonization, environmental adaptation).

Ian Hargraves is a designer and researcher with the Knowledge and Evaluation Research Unit at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. He leads the design of tools to support deliberative conversations between patients and their clinicians and explores the connections between design and care.
