A Design Space for Legal and Systems Capability: Interfaces for Self-Help in Complex Systems

Margaret Hagan is co-guest editor and co-cover designer for this special issue, “The Rise of Legal Design,” of Design Issues (vol. 36, no. 3 Summer 2020). Margaret is the director of the Legal Design Lab and a lecturer at Stanford Institute of Design (the d.school). She was a fellow at the d.school (2013–2014), where she launched the Legal Design Lab, experimenting in how design can make legal services more usable, useful & engaging. She holds an AB from the University of Chicago, an MA from Central European University in Budapest, a PhD from Queen's University Belfast in International Politics, and a JD from Stanford Law School.

F. Kürşat özenç (Cure_shot euzehnc) is co-guest editor and co-cover designer for this special issue, “The Rise of Legal Design,” of Design Issues (vol. 36, no. 3 Summer 2020). He is a designer, researcher, and an educator. Kürsat runs the Ritual Design Lab initiative at Stanford d.school, where he leads experiments with students and partner organizations on personal, team, and human-robot rituals. He also teaches service design at d.school as part of the Stanford Legal Design Lab. He loves creating tools and services for experts and everyday people, and he has a keen interest in behavior design, particularly rituals. His work has been featured on the Atlantic and the Canadian Public Radio, and he recently published his first book on workplace rituals for Wiley. Kursat holds a PhD in Design from Carnegie Mellon University. He's a native of Turkey—Cappadocia.
