The question of this article is: can we define certain types of information that are specifically suitable for a visual representation while other types of information can be better represented verbally? The concept of space is introduced as the central notion to make this distinction in combination with the knowledge of metaphors. Three conditions are formulated when text does a better job than a visualization.
