Images of Armageddon: Japan's 1980s Theatre Culture

Uchino Tadashi is Associate Professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies, Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Tokyo. His research interests include contemporary Japanese and American theatre and performance. His most recent publication is Melorodrama no Gyakushu—Watakushi Engseki no Hachiju-nendai (The Melodramatic Revenge: Theatre of the Private in the 1980s, Keiso-shobo, 1996). He is now preparing a collection of critical essays on American contemporary performance (University of Tokyo Press, 2000). He is a contributing editor to TDR and was a founding editor of the Tokyo-published Theatre Arts journal (1994–1998), as well as Chimera (since 1999)
