Tanzanian Theatre, From Marx to the Marketplace

He has created performances with several indigenous groups, including work with Tuma Theatre, Yup'ik and Inupiat Eskimo; Kwasa Group, Zulu; Center for the Arts, Zambia; Sakha National Theatre, central Siberia; the !Xuu and Khwe Bushmen, Kalahari; and Tukak' Teatret, Greenland Inuit. He has been a visiting professor at the Korean National University of the Arts, Seoul, and the University of Dar es Salaam. He is currently developing a project with the Miao people of China. He has had two previous articles appear in TDR, “A Message from Eagle Mother: The Messenger's Feast of the Inupiat Eskimo” (TDR 37, 1 [T137], 1993), and “Politics, Slapstick, and Zulus on Tour” (TDR 40, 4 [T152], 1996).
