Abstract
In the not-too-distant future a person will listen to any music she desires by subscribing to a “celestial jukebox”—a satellite system serving selections from a vast storehouse. But even as the physical embodiments of music disappear, Auslander wonders, “What does it mean to look at records”—as material objects.
