Around the centrally placed mosque, an Arabo-Islamic city radiates outwards in a series of circles. Al-halqa performance is a free and licensed expressive behavior situated at the medina gates and marketplaces. Some al-halqa-type performances have been transferred to theatre buildings-bringing both new possibilities and difficult contradictions.
