The Metonymy of Art: Vietnamese Water Puppetry As a Representation of Modern Vietnam

She serves as Southeast Asia editor of Asian Theatre Journal. Her exhibit on puppets of South and Southeast Asia was shown at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta and the East West Center in Hawaii (2000). Her writing on Southeast Asian theatre can be found in the Cambridge Guide to Asian Theatre edited by James Brandon (Cambridge University Press, 1993), Asian Theatre Journal, Modern Drama, TDR, and Puppetry International. She performs Sundanese wayang golek purwa, a rod puppet genre of West Java, in Indonesia and the U.S. Research for this article was supported by the Asian Cultural Council and the UCSC Academic Senate and Division of the Arts.
