A Kabuki Reader

Teaches Japanese literature and theatre at the University of Victoria, Canada. He is the author of Spirits of Another Sort: The Plays of Izumi Kyôka (1873–1939) (University of Michigan, 2001). His translations of three kabuki plays appear in Vols. 1 and 2 of Kabuki Plays on Stage edited by James R. Bandon and Samuel L. Leiter. (University of Hawai‘i Press, 2002). He has also translated two contemporary plays for Vols. 4 and 5 of Half a Century of Japanese Theater, edited by Japan Playwrights Association (Kinokuniya Press, 2002 and 2003).
