Conditions in Lebanon, material and psychological, during the long years of war from 1975 to 1990 devastated the culture. Karam's very personal story is one man's attempt to make an experimental theatre in Lebanon. His work was interrupted, and the experiment—adapting traditional performance for an epoch permeated by modern technology—never had the chance to prosper or to spread beyond a few limited circles.
