Her other books are Actresses as Working Women: Their Social Identity in Victorian Culture (Routledge, 1991), George Bernard Shaw and the Socialist Theatre (Greenwood, 1994), and The Economics of the British Stage, 1800–1914 (Cambridge University Press, 2000). She has also published articles on 19th- and 20th-century theatre and performance and coedited Theatricality, with Thomas Postlewait (Cambridge University Press, 2003). She is General Editor of the Cambridge University series Theatre and Performance Theory, and Editor of TDR's Provocations section.
