Globality's Children: The “Child's” Body As a Strategy of Flatness in Performance

He has an MA in American Literature (1984) and a PhD in Performance Studies (2002) from the University of Tokyo. Twice a Fulbright scholar (1986 and 1997), he has studied at the Department of Performance Studies at NYU. His books include Melodrama no Gyakushu: Watakushi Engeki no Hachiju-nendai (The Melodramatic Revenge: Theatre of the Private in the 1980s; Keiso Shobo Publishing, 1996) and Melodrama kara Performance he; Niju-seiki America Engeki-ron (From Melodrama to Performance: The 20th Century American Theatre; University of Tokyo Press, 2001). He is a Contributing Editor of TDR, a founding Editor of Theatre Arts (1994–1998), and writes for Performing Arts, Book Review Press, and others.
