Elias Khoury

Elias Khoury is a writer, performer, and academic. His plays have been staged in Lebanon and abroad. A co-organizer of the Ayloul Festival, he also served as artistic director of the Theatre of Beirut from 1992 to 1998. He is the editor of the Mulhak, the literary supplement of the An-Nahar. An author of 12 novels, he has taught Arabic and comparative literature at the Lebanese University, the American University of Beirut, Columbia, and New York University.

Rabih Mroué

Rabih Mroué is an actor, director, and playwright. Since 1995, he has written and directed short films and documentaries for Future TV. Through his plays, performances, and videos, he explores the association of theatrical form with space, the relationship of the performer to the audience, and the political and economic contexts of semidocumentary theatre. Productions include Biokhraphia (2002, with Lina Saneh), Looking for a Missing Employee (2003), and Who's Afraid of Representation (2004).

Abstract

Three Posters plays with fiction and truth by offering a voyeuristic view of multiple takes of Jamal Sati's farewell video testimonial, recorded shortly before his suicide mission, and juxtaposing them with an actor's real-time testimonial. The videos consider the limits of truth and its representations, asking: Were the artists violating the sacred space of the martyr in order to critique the concept of martyrdom and the powers that nourish such ideologies?
