Lina Saneh

Lina Saneh, born in Beirut in 1966, has acted in, written, and directed several plays, among them: Les Chaises (1996); Ovrira (1997); Extrait d'Etat Civil (2000); and Appendice (2007). She made her first video, I Had a Dream, Mom in 2006. She is Assistant Professor at the Institut d'Etudes Séniques et Audio-Visuelles at the Saint-Joseph University in Beirut and at the Saint-Esprit University in Kaslic. In earlier works, she focused on physical theatre to produce a body imprinted by the war, questioning the sociopolitical conflicts and contradictions in the Middle East and the traces they mark on bodies. Today, Saneh spotlights the nature and role of acts onstage, questioning the role of body language in a virtual world marked by the idealization of the physical body. Her interest is in work that interrogates citizenship status and our position in public spaces, and that might create a new political parole.

Rabih Mroué

Rabih Mroué, born in Beirut in 1967, is an actor, director, playwright, and TDR Contributing Editor. His plays, performances, and videos question the definition of theatre and the relationship between the space and form of the performance and, consequently, question how the performer relates with the audience. His works deal with issues that have been swept under the table in the current political climate of Lebanon. He draws much-needed attention to the broader political and economic contexts by means of a semidocumentary theatre. His works include: How Nancy Wished That Everything Was an April Fool's Joke (2007) with Fadi Toufiq; Make Me Stop Smoking (2006); Looking for a Missing Employee (2005); Three Posters (2000) with Elias Khoury, published in TDR 50:3; Look into the Light… (2004); and Who's Afraid of Representation? (2003).
