Albert Woodfox has been in solitary confinement in the Louisiana State Penitentiary since 1972. That means he has been in a 6′ × 9′ cell for a minimum of 23 hours a day for nearly 40 years. He, along with his comrades Herman Wallace and Robert King, are known as the Angola 3.
