Rabih Mroué was born in Beirut in 1967. He is an actor, director, playwright, and a Contributing Editor of TDR and the Lebanese quarterly Kalamon. He is one of the founders and sits on the executive board of the Beirut Art Center association (BAC). In 1990 he began putting on his own plays, performances, and videos. Grant awards include: Foundation for Contemporary Arts, New York, 2010; The Spalding Gray Award, P.S.122, New York, 2010; and the Prince Claus Award, Amsterdam, 2011. His works include Photo-Romance (2009), The Inhabitants of Images (2008), How Nancy Wished That Everything Was an April Fool's Joke (2007); Make Me Stop Smoking (2006); Looking for a Missing Employee (2005); Look into the Light… (2004); Who's Afraid of Representation? (2003), The Lift (2003), Biokhraphia (2002), Three Posters (2000), Extension 19 (1997), and others. [email protected]

Carol Martin

Carol Martin is Professor of Drama at NYU. Her books include Theatre of the Real (Palgrave/MacMillan, 2012), The Dramaturgy of the Real on the World Stage (Palgrave/MacMillan, 2010); Brecht Sourcebook, coedited with Henry Bial (Routledge, 2000); A Sourcebook of Feminist Theatre: On and Beyond the Stage (Routledge, 1996); and Dance Marathons: Performing American Culture of the 1920s and 1930s (University of Mississippi Press, 1994). She has been awarded a Visiting Professor Fellowship at Tokyo University, Komaba; the De La Torre Bueno for Dance Marathons; as well as grants from the Fulbright Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Abstract

How should we understand the mobile phone images uploaded to the internet during the ongoing Syrian Revolution? Are the broken-up and incomplete images taken by Syrians an extension of their physical experiences? Are mobile phones extensions of photographers' brains, of their bodies, of their beings?
