Jan Gilbert is a native New Orleanian, interdisciplinary artist, and curator currently serving as Interim Director of Visual Arts at the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans. Gilbert received her MFA from Tulane University in 1982. She is a cofounder of the artist/writer collective The VESTIGES Project, and has for the last 30 years directed, produced, and participated as a core artist in a wide variety of multidisciplinary public art projects that include video, performance, and site interactions. Gilbert's works have been shown internationally and mine memory, loss, and transition. [email protected]

Kevin McCaffrey

Kevin McCaffrey is a documentary filmmaker and writer/editor who specializes in issues of culture and environments in Louisiana. His work was recently a finalist for a James Beard Award in broadcast media and his film No One Ever Went Hungry was named the 2012 Humanities Documentary Film of the Year in Louisiana. He is a regular columnist in Cultural Vistas magazine, published by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. Just before Katrina he edited, contributed to, and published The Incomplete, Year-by-Year Selectively Quirky, Prime Facts Edition of the History of The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (e/Prime Publications, 2005). Abstract

In post-Katrina New Orleans, creative artists took responsibility for remembering the disaster and re-visioning the city. This collection of articles and photographs offers a glimpse into the still-emerging effort to think through the past and envision the future of life and art in New Orleans.
