Pia Kleber has been Professor of Drama and Comparative Literature at the University of Toronto since 1988. For 20 years she was also Director of the University College Drama Program. In 1999 she was named the inaugural Helen and Paul Phelan Chair in Drama. She has published extensively on Bertolt Brecht, Roger Planchon, Giorgio Strehler, Robert Wilson, and Robert Lepage, most recently contributing to the Great European Stage Directors series (“Approaching Brecht — Documenting Planchon: Roger Planchon's Three Stagings of The Good Person of Szechwan”; Metheun 2018). Presently she is working on creative research in the arts and artificial intelligence. [email protected]

Tamara Trojanowska

Tamara Trojanowska is Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, cross-appointed in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures and the Center for Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies. Her current research focuses on transgressive cryptotheologies at the intersection of identity and history in drama and theatre. Her latest publications include Being Poland: A New History of Polish Literature and Culture since 1918, coedited with Joanna Niżyńska and Przemysław Czapliński (University of Toronto Press, 2018) and “Transgression and Eschatology in the Works of Tadeusz Kantor” (in Theatermachine: Tadeusz Kantor in Context, edited by Magda Romanska and Kathleen Cioffi, Northwestern University Press, 2019). Antje Budde and David Rokeby discuss their perspectives on algorithms, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies in the context of performance. Budde explains the activities and philosophy of the Digital Dramaturgy Lab at the University of Toronto and Rokeby articulates his perspectives on performance as a creator of interactive installations.
