The Castillo Theatre, aka the Castillo Cultural Center, is a controversial presence in New York. Dubbed by some as a cult, the Center and its wide-ranging activities are for others community-building, socially constructive, and avantgarde. Castillo is very much the creature of its founder and leader, psychotherapist/playwright/social philosopher Fred Newman.
