Catastrophic Climate Risk and Brazilian Amazonian Politics and Policies: A New Research Agenda

Joana Castro Pereira is a junior researcher at the Portuguese Institute of International Relations (IPRI-NOVA). Between January 2017 and April 2018, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of International Relations of the University of Brasília. Her latest publications include “The Limitations of IR Theory Regarding the Environment: Lessons from the Anthropocene” (Revista Brasileira de Política Internacional, 2017), “Catastrophic Climate Change and Forest Tipping Points: Blind Spots in International Politics and Policy” (Global Policy, 2018), and “Integrating Water Footprint and Sefficiency: Overcoming Water Footprint Criticisms and Improving Decision Making” (Water Alternatives, 2018).

Eduardo Viola is a full professor at the Institute of International Relations of the University of Brasília, senior researcher at the Brazilian Council for Scientific Development, and coordinator of the research group “The International System in the Anthropocene.” His latest publications include “Low Carbon Green Economy: Brazilian Policies and Politics of Energy, 2003–2014” (in Handbook on Sustainability Transition and Sustainable Peace, 2016), “Divergences between New Patterns of Global Trade and Brazil/Mercosur” (Brazilian Political Science Review, 2017), and Brazil and Climate Change: Beyond the Amazon (2018).
