Reply: The Persistent Absence of Empirical Evidence for Free-Riding in Global Climate Politics

Michaël Aklin is an associate professor of political science at the University of Pittsburgh. He received his Ph.D. from New York University in 2014 and studied at the Graduate Institute for International Studies (Switzerland) and the University of Essex (UK). His research focuses economic and public policies that promote (or not) sustainable development. The (co)author of two books published by MIT Press and over 30 scientific articles, he regularly collaborates with policymakers, firms, and NGOs to identify and help address policy issues.

Matto Mildenberger is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science, University of California Santa Barbara. His research explores the politics of climate change in the United States and around the world. His work has been published in the American Political Science Review, British Journal of Political Science, Nature Climate Change, Political Science Research Methods, Nature Energy, and elsewhere. His second book, Carbon Captured: How Labor and Business Control Climate Politics, is available from MIT Press. At UCSB, he co-runs the Energy and Environment Transitions (ENVENT) Lab and directs the university’s 2035 Initiative for Energy System Decarbonization.
