On Barak is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Middle Eastern and African History at Tel Aviv University, specializing in the social and cultural history of science and technology in non-Western settings. He is the author of several articles and two books, Names Without Faces: From Polemics to Flirtation in an Islamic Chat-Room (Almqvist & Wiksell, 2006) and On Time: Technology and Temporality in Modern Egypt (University of California Press, 2013).
