Editor's Introduction Multiplying the Visual: Image and Object in the Nineteenth Century

Emerson Bowyer is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University. His dissertation, “Numismatic Modernity,” addresses medals, coins, and other financial instruments in the early nineteenth century. He is currently Andrew W. Mellon Curatorial Fellow at the Frick Collection, New York, where he is planning an exhibition on the French sculptor David d'Angers.
