We owe a large measure of thanks to Dr. Morgan Kaplan for his outstanding contributions to the journal during his tenure as Executive Editor. He stepped into a challenging role and provided confident leadership, sound judgment, and meticulous editorial effort. He brought to our team a notable energy, enthusiasm, and effectiveness. These admirable and valuable attributes were enhanced by a prodigious work ethic, from which the journal and its contributors profited enormously. International Security continued to prosper in his hands and for this we offer our deep gratitude. We regret that his time with us was not longer, but we look forward to Morgan's inevitable future successes.
When an irresistible opportunity took Morgan from us on short notice, we faced the immediate problem of who would manage the very demanding workflow associated with the journal while we searched for Morgan's successor. It was our great good fortune that Professor Sebastian Rosato of Notre Dame volunteered to take on the responsibility. For six months Sebastian graced us with his presence, kept our processes moving smoothly, and guided us forward with sound judgment and good humor. He mastered the indispensable role immediately and allowed us to have a seamless transition after Morgan's departure. We are most grateful for his efforts and do not know what we would have done without him.
It is our great pleasure to introduce the new Executive Editor of International Security, Dr. Jill Hazelton. She joins us from the U.S. Naval War College, where she was Associate Professor in the Department of Strategy and Policy. Jill brings to our team a wide and deep knowledge of the field, extensive editorial and writing experience, and a passionate commitment to the mission of the journal. A former research fellow in the Belfer Center's International Security Program and a long-time associate of the program, Jill arrives with a knowledge of our team and operations and an enthusiasm for continuing our traditions and practices. We look forward to her stewardship of the next phase in the journal's history.
International Security is the fruit of immense labor by a small group of people. One of the key members of our team is Carly Demetre, who handles extensive and essential responsibilities with unfailing effectiveness and collegiality. Her mastery of operational details is truly impressive but also crucial to the efficient functioning of the journal. We could not operate as we do without her. Accordingly, we are pleased to report that she has received a much-deserved promotion to the position of Publications Coordinator.
Finally, a sad note. Long-time Editorial Board member Robert Jervis passed away in December 2021. Bob was a great scholar, a revered teacher, and a wonderful human being. We mourn his loss and will miss him and his tremendous contributions to our field.
