Alejandro Pazos Sierra was born in PadrÓn, Spain, in 1959. He received advanced degrees in knowledge engineering and computer science from the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 1989 and 1990, respectively, and a Ph.D. degree in medicine from the University Complutense of Madrid in 1996. In 1995, Pazos founded the Artificial Neural Networks and Adaptive Systems (RNASA) laboratory and has managed it since.

Antonino Santos received a Ph.D. in computer science from A Coruña University in 1998. At present he is associate professor at University of A Coruña and manager at Computer Science Research Service in Spain. Santos has authored or edited more than 25 articles and 7 books and participated as researcher in seven funded research proposals concerning to artificial intelligence, neural networks and Internet security.

Abstract

The authors present a musical composition model that creates rhythmic patterns through a system based on genetic algorithms, involving the interaction of several artificial musicians. In this environment, various composer systems and human musicians may interact within a system based on artificial life.
