Narcissus and Echo: Reflections on an Art-Science Collaboration

DOLORES STEINMAN is a senior research associate at the BSL, studying the rapport and connection between medical imagery and its nonscientific counterparts. Originally trained as a pediatrician and cell biologist, and currently a volunteer docent at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, she is driven by her keen interest in placing technology-based medical explorations in the larger context of the arts and humanities.

PETER COPPIN, an associate professor, Faculty of Design, OCAD University (Toronto), is an inclusive designer, visual artist and cognitive scientist. His Perceptual Artifacts Lab (PAL) seeks to improve information inclusion through an understanding of perceptual-cultural-motor capabilities’ interaction with interfaces and designs. His media art designs have been exhibited internationally.

DAVID STEINMAN, a professor of mechanical and biomedical engineering, University of Toronto, is recognized as a pioneer in the integration of medical imaging and computational modeling and their uses in the study of cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment. Throughout his career he has explored novel ways of representing complex engineering and scientific data to the different communities served by his biomedical research interests.
