for article titled, AI and Care for Other(ed) Animals: Art, machine learning, and
interspecies futures
This article asks what might be achieved by entangling care for other species with AI model creation in order to attend to ethical concerns surrounding the technological trajectory of animal-human-AI interactions. It argues that before we can teach AI to have caring intentions, we need to teach ourselves radical acts of caregiving. Through a practice-based approach, I deliver a call to action for developing a methodological framework for technological development by using a case study involving animal rehabilitation volunteering. This is exemplified in the The (m)Otherhood of Meep artwork, whose creative process aims to ignite conversations regarding care-full machine learning.
