MICHAEL COWAN is Assistant Professor of German and Film Studies at McGill University. His publications include Cult of the Will: Nervousness and German Modernity (Penn State University Press, 2008), Leibhaftige Moderne: Körper in Kunst und Massenmedien 1918–1933 (Bielefeld, 2005), and several articles on modernism, film history, and the history of the body.
