Malevich and Richter: An Indeterminate Encounter Free

TIMOTHY O. BENSON is curator of LACMA's Rifkind Center for German Expressionist Studies. His exhibitions and publications include Raoul Hausmann and Berlin Dada (UMI, 1987), Expressionist Utopias (University of California Press, 2001), and Central European Avant-Gardes: 1910–1930 (MIT, 2002). His current exhibitions include “Hans Richter: Encounters,” opening in May 2013, and “German Expressionism and France,” planned for 2014.

ALEKSANDRA SHATSKIKH is a leading authority on the Russian avant-garde whose publications include Kazimir Malevich: Collected Works in Five Volumes (Moscow: Gilea, 1995–2004); “Malevich and Film” in The Burlington Magazine: A Centenary Anthology (Yale University Press, 2003); Vitebsk: Life of Art 1917–1922 (Yale University Press, 2007), winner of the Robert Motherwell Book Award; and Black Square: Malevich and the Origin of Suprematism (Yale University Press, 2012).
