Who's There?—Community of the Question

Herbert Blau is the Byron W. and Alice L. Lockwood Professor of the Humanities at the University of Washington. This essay was the keynote at “Zuschauen/Quel public?/As You Like It,” an international symposium at the University of Zurich (April 2005)—the conception of the symposium induced by his book, The Audience. Blau's most recent book was The Dubious Spectacle: Extremities of Theater, and he is currently working on As If: An Autobiography.
