In Praise of the Anthologist's Craft

Daniel Gerould is Lucille Lortel Distinguished Professor of Theatre and Comparative Literature at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, Executive Director of the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, and Editor of Slavic and East European Performance. He has edited the following anthologies: Avant-garde Drama: Major Plays and Documents Post World War I (with Bernard Dukore, Bantam, 1969); Twentieth-Century Polish Avant-garde Drama: Plays, Scenarios, Critical Documents (Cornell University Press, 1977); Gallant and Libertine: Eighteenth-Century French Divertissements and Parades (PAJ, 1983); American Melodrama (PAJ, 1983); Symbolist Drama: An International Collection (PAJ, 1985); The Witkiewicz Reader (Northwestern University Press, 1991); The Mrozek Reader (Grove, 2004). He also edited the 12 volumes of the Routledge Harwood Polish and East European Theatre Archive.
