Scripts of Time and Absence

Kirsten Justesen trained in sculpture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. In more than four decades her work has comprised a wide range of genres, from body art to performance art to sculpture, and installation. She has also designed a number of sets for theatre and ballet companies. For more than three decades ice has been pivotal to the artist's work. MELTINGTIME events have taken place in Greenland, Finland, Australia, New York, Quebec, and Italy, and the most recent, MELTINGTIME #17, at Overgaden in Copenhagen in 2013. Justesen was represented in WACK! Art and the Feminist Revolution, Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles. In 1998, she was honored with one of the life-long grants from the Danish Arts Council and received the Thorvaldsen Medal 2005.
