Swerdlow is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics of the University of Chicago and Visiting Associate in the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences of California Institute of Technology. His research is concerned principally with the history of astronomy from antiquity through the seventeenth century.
