Reactivating the “Lost” Treasures of the European Avant-garde: A Conversation with Artist and Filmmaker Bruce Checefsky

Anna Dempsey, Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, teaches contemporary art, new media, and the history of design. She has published articles on public sculpture and urban architecture in Berlin, museum architecture and exhibitions in Germany, new media and the public sphere, and numerous articles on contemporary film and gender. She is currently working on a book titled Working Women Artists: Images of Domesticity and the Construction of American Modernism.

Matthew Benjamin Matteson is a PhD candidate in History, Theory and Criticism of Architecture at MIT where is currently writing his dissertation titled “Between Architectures: Institutionalization and Architectural Discourse in Early 20th Century Poland.” Ben previously earned a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Tennessee. He has published on the influence of romanticizing historiography on architecture in late 19th century Poland.

Pamela Karimi is Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. A former editor of Thresholds, she has also published articles, interviews, and reviews in Persica, Perspecta, International Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, The Art Journal, Bidoun, The Arab Studies Journal, and The Encyclopedia of Women and Islamic Cultures. A graduate of MIT’s School of Architecture, Karimi is the recipient of numerous fellowships, including the Social Science Research Council and the American Council of Learned Societies. She is now completing her first monograph, Domesticity and Consumer Culture in Iran: Interior Revolutions of the Modern Era (Routledge, 2012).
