Elizabeth Pigou-Dennis, PhD, is a social historian, having studied at the University of the West Indies, Mona, where her postgraduate work examined various aspects of material culture, including residential architecture in Jamaica. She is an Associate Professor in architectural history and theory and vice dean in the Faculty of the Built Environment, University of Technology, Jamaica. Her book, Slums and Suburbs: Living in Kingston, Jamaica 1914–1945 is in press with Arawak Publishers. She is currently president of the Jamaican Historical Society, and a Trustee of the Jamaica National Heritage Trust.
