Tamara Plakins Thornton
Tamara Plakins Thornton, professor of history at the State University of New York, Buffalo, is the author of Cultivating Gentlemen: The Meaning of Country Life among the Boston Elite, 1785–1860 (1989) and served as a historical consultant for the 2014 PBS documentary Frederick Law Olmsted: Designing America. Her most recent book is Nathaniel Bowditch and the Power of Numbers: How a Nineteenth-Century Man of Business, Science, and the Sea Changed American Life (2016).
