A Loyalist Who Loved His Country too Much: Thomas Hutchinson, Historian of Colonial Massachusetts

A history of the book approach to Thomas Hutchinson's History of Massachusetts Bay (published 1764-1828) recovers his commitment to preserve facts and his place in eighteenth-century historiography. Hutchinson's vilification by patriots still obscures our understanding of his loyalism.
