for article titled, Printing Whaling Masculinity in A Shoal of Sperm Whale
This article discusses how the earliest American whaling prints reinforced and constructed ideas about gender. Whaleman Cornelius Hulsart was injured in a whaling accident, but sold prints that highlighted whaling violence, glorified able-bodied sailors, and thanked the industry. These scenes would impact how masculinity was understood in visual culture.
