for article titled, Ideological Origins of the Irish Revolution
In 1782, the Irish obtained legislative and judicial concessions and liberal trade privileges from Britain. The debate over Ireland's political and constitutional status rivaled that which Bernard Bailyn made famous in Ideological Origins of the American Revolution . This essay addresses how the Irish were able to do this and why they did not declare their independence in 1782.
